The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) forecasts thunderstorms across Nigeria from Monday, September 23, to Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
The agency’s weather outlook, released in Abuja on Sunday, warns of morning thunderstorms on Monday in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno states.
Thunderstorms are expected in Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto states later in the day. The Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states will experience morning thunderstorms.
The southwest inland, including Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun, as well as coastal states like Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa, will receive morning rains.
Thunderstorms will persist in various states, including Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Abia, Osun, Imo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos.
NiMet warns of potential urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours and strong winds preceding thunderstorms. Residents are advised to stay informed through weather updates and adhere to safety advisories.
