The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results, marking a significant milestone for candidates who sat for the exam.
According to Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, 60.55% of candidates secured five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics.
*Key Highlights of the Results*
– _Total Registration_: 1,376,423 candidates registered for the exam, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females.
– _Number of Candidates Who Sat_: 1,367,736 candidates sat for the exam, comprising 702,112 males and 665,624 females.
– _Candidates with Five Credits and Above_: 828,284 candidates secured five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, representing 60.55%.
– _Candidates with Five Credits and Above (Irrespective of English and Mathematics)_: 1,147,597 candidates secured five credits and above, representing 83.90%.
While the results show a significant improvement in performance, malpractice remains a concern. Professor Wushishi noted a 30.1% reduction in malpractice cases compared to last year, with 8,437 candidates involved in various forms of malpractice. However, 40 schools were found to have engaged in mass cheating in 17 states, and one school in Ekiti has been recommended for de-recognition. Additionally, 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision and other offenses.
