The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has moved swiftly to debunk rumors surrounding the arrest of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
In a statement released on Wednesday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale emphasized that Bello is not in the commission’s custody, contrary to widespread media reports.
Yahaya Bello’s Wanted Status Reaffirmed
Oyewale reiterated that Bello remains wanted by the commission due to alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges. A subsisting warrant for his arrest is still in place. “Media reports today that a former Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello is in the holding facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is incorrect. The Commission wishes to state that Bello is not in its custody. Bello, already declared wanted by the Commission for alleged N80.2billion money laundering charges, remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest.”
This clarification comes after Bello’s media team announced that he had honored the EFCC’s invitation, sparking confusion about his status [2).
The EFCC’s statement aims to set the record straight, reaffirming Bello’s wanted status and quashing speculation about his arrest.
