Petroleum marketers have challenged Dangote Refinery to reveal its Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) price, amid claims of lower prices.
Marketers’ Concern:
Products Retail Outlets Owners Association President Billy Gillis-Harry and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria President Abubakar Maigandi expressed concerns.
Unknown Price:
Gillis-Harry asked, “What is the price of DRL petrol? Why don’t Dangote Refinery give us a price list?”
Partnership Condition:
“We are willing to partner with Dangote Refinery based on a fair price… We partner on the basis that we can sell with a human face,” Gillis-Harry stated.
No Boycott:
Maigandi denied boycotting Dangote Refinery’s petrol, stressing marketers’ readiness to buy at competitive prices.
Price Uncertainty:
Maigandi noted, “We don’t know the price of Dangote Refinery’s Petrol… provided the price is not more than what we’re getting from other places.”
Location-Based Pricing:
Marketers buy petrol at varying prices depending on location, Maigandi added.
Dangote’s Stance:
Aliko Dangote earlier stated that the Federal Executive Council, headed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would determine the price.
Next Steps:
Dangote Refinery’s response to marketers’ demands will determine the future of local petrol trade.
Industry Implications:
Price transparency crucial for fair competition and market growth.
