The Kano State Government has announced the postponement of the resumption date for primary and post-primary schools for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The government had earlier fixed September 9, 2024, as the resumption date, but a new statement released on Saturday by the Director of Public Enlightenment of the Ministry of Education, Balarabe Kiru, revealed that the date has been postponed.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Education, Umar Doguwa, attributed the postponement to “some urgent reasons” that will improve the learning atmosphere for students. However, Doguwa declined to disclose the exact reason for the postponement, stating that a new resumption date will be announced by the ministry soon.
The statement read: “I wish to inform pupils, students, and parents that the announcement made earlier for school resumption on 8 and 9 September 2024 is now being postponed due to some urgent reasons that will help improve the conducive learning atmosphere for our children. Another date for resumption will be announced in due course.”
The government has appealed to students, parents, and guardians to bear with any inconvenience caused by the postponement. The new resumption date is expected to be announced soon, but no specific timeline has been provided.
The postponement has raised concerns among parents and students, who had already made preparations for the resumption of schools. The government’s decision to postpone the resumption date without providing a specific reason has also sparked speculation among stakeholders in the education sector.
