Crystal Palace chairman, Steve Parish, has expressed his surprise at the lack of interest in midfielder Eberechi Eze during the summer transfer window.
Despite having plenty of admirers in the Premier League, there was no concrete approach for the 26-year-old Nigerian midfielder. Parish revealed that he was worried about losing Eze, especially after Michael Olise was signed by Bayern Munich in a £50m deal.
Parish told Sky Sports News that he was “astounded” by the lack of interest in Eze, praising the midfielder as an “outstanding footballer” and “outstanding person.” Palace were relieved to keep Eze, who is understood to have a release clause of around £60m in his contract.
“I was really worried from a club point of view of losing Michael and Ebbs in the same window and we didn’t have in Ebbs the interest that I thought we would have,” Parish said. “I was astounded. Genuinely astounded. I mean, the guy’s just an outstanding footballer, an outstanding person.”
With the transfer window now closed, Eze is set to remain at Crystal Palace for the foreseeable future. The midfielder will be looking to continue his impressive form for the Eagles, who will be hoping to build on their recent successes.
