Ivan Toney has bid farewell to Brentford, joining Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli on a permanent transfer, pending international clearance.
The striker’s departure marks the end of a remarkable four-year stint at Brentford, where he scored 72 goals in 141 appearances.
Toney played a pivotal role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in the 2020/21 season and subsequent top-flight campaigns. His impressive goal-scoring record, averaging over one goal every two games, earned him widespread acclaim.
Head coach Thomas Frank praised Toney’s contributions, saying, “He has been a fantastic goalscorer, link-up player, and leader. He has pushed the team, the squad, and himself.” Frank acknowledged the significance of Toney’s departure, stating, “It’s a wonderful journey that we have been on together. Ivan helped the club and the team, and the club and the team have helped Ivan.”
Frank expressed happiness for Toney’s new opportunity, saying, “I’m happy he has an opportunity to try something new in his life and career.” The Brentford head coach thanked Toney for his “magic moments” and wished him all the best for his next chapter, declaring, “Ivan leaves as a Brentford legend.”
