Tragedy struck on Sunday as members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ites, launched a deadly attack on police personnel at Wuse Junction by the traffic light in Abuja.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, two officers lost their lives in the attack, while three others are currently unconscious. The attackers wielded machetes, improvised explosive devices, and knives, leading to the tragic loss of lives.
The Police Command has made several arrests in connection with the killings and promises to bring those involved to book. The Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, condemned the unprovoked attack and assured that the situation is under control and normalcy has been restored.
The Police Command has promised to communicate further developments in due course as the investigation into the incident continues. The attack on police personnel has sparked concerns about the safety and security of law enforcement agents in the nation’s capital.
