The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Anambra Branch has called off its indefinite strike action, which began on August 22, following the release of Dr. Stephen Ezeh, a private practitioner kidnapped in Ihiala on August 15.
In a statement signed by Dr. Princeston Okam and Dr. Ifeanyi Obiaeli, Chairman and Secretary of the NMA Anambra Branch, respectively, the association instructed its members to return to work, with clinical services resuming at 08:00 hours on Sunday, August 25.
The NMA expressed gratitude to the people of Anambra for their understanding during the strike and commended its members for their solidarity. The association prayed for an end to such tribulations and urged its members to remain committed to delivering healthcare services.
The NMA urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to declare a state of emergency on security in the state, citing the crippling effect of growing insecurity and kidnappings on the economy and healthcare delivery. The association appealed to the public, security agencies, professional bodies, and corporate entities to collaborate with the governor towards achieving a peaceful and secure Anambra.
