A devastating accident occurred at Enugada, Lafenwa, Abeokuta, Ogun State, resulting in four fatalities and multiple injuries.
The crash involved a truck with registration number AAA 86 XX, which collided with two commercial motorcycles (DE 968 V and AAB 387 VP) and a Honda CRV (EKY 857 GU) at approximately 8:30 pm on Thursday. The truck’s driver and motor boy were absent when the vehicle came to a halt.
Operatives from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) were deployed to the scene to evacuate victims, clear road obstructions, and manage traffic.
According to TRACE Public Relations Officer Babatunde Akinbiyi, the accident was caused by brake failure while the truck was descending from Itoku enroute Enugada, Lafenwa.
Akinbiyi stated, “According to eyewitness account, the truck developed a brake failure (mechanical) while descending from Itoku enroute Ago-Oba towards Enugada, Lafenwa, and rammed into two motorcycles and a Honda CRV, killing the 2 motorcyclists and the two passengers they were both carrying, while the driver of the Honda CRV car was injured.”
Initially, six were presumed dead, including the injured Honda CRV driver and a pedestrian, but they were revived due to the efforts of first responders and members of the public.
The bodies of the victims and the injured were deposited at a hospital, whose identity will be released later.
Akinbiyi urged motorists to service their vehicles regularly and ensure major mechanical components are in good working condition before embarking on a journey.
