The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government will meet on Monday to address the union’s demands and prevent an impending strike.
ASUU had issued a 21-day strike notice to the government, asking President Bola Tinubu’s administration to address unresolved matters hindering Nigerian universities’ development. National President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke gave the notice at a press conference in Abia State.
Education Minister Prof Tahir Mamman announced the meeting on TVC’s Beyond 100 days programme, stating that government officials reviewed ASUU’s letter and listed issues on Wednesday. He expressed hope for a productive discussion on Monday.
Mamman acknowledged that some issues, like the 2009 agreement, date back to 1981. He emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing ASUU’s concerns through ongoing conversations.
The meeting aims to resolve ASUU’s demands and prevent a strike, ensuring the continued development of Nigerian universities.
