Tragedy struck Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, as a final year student, Esu Ema, met her untimely death in a road accident near the campus gate.
According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, Ema was knocked down by a Lexus car driven by Lasisi Sodiq while crossing the Ife-Ibadan Road. The Federal Road Safety Corps recovered her corpse and deposited it at the OAU Teaching Hospital mortuary, while the police arrested the driver for investigation.
OAU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family, describing the loss as “irreparable.” He urged them to find solace in God, saying, “The Lord will give us all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
Ema, a student of the Department of Foreign Languages, was just a project submission away from completing her final year. Her death has left the university community in shock, with many mourning the loss of a young and promising life.
