The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has received a boost ahead of the September 21 governorship election with the defection of hundreds of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and Africa Democratic Congress.
The defectors were received at Igueben, the headquarters of the Igueben Local Government area, by the Director-General of the APC Campaign Council, Matthew Urhoghide. He assured them of fair treatment and equal status within the party.
Urhoghide emphasized the APC’s commitment to inclusivity, saying, “In the APC, we are all equal. Our candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, will listen to the yearnings of the people without discrimination.”
The Coordinator of the APC Campaign Council in the Edo Central Senatorial District, Odianosen Okojie, urged the defectors to mobilize their supporters to vote for the APC on September 21.
The APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, expressed confidence in his home support, saying, “My people have asked me not to bother to campaign here because I have their support and votes already.”
Okpebholo’s running mate, Dennis Idahosa, urged party supporters to come out en masse on election day to vote for the APC.
Former Governor Adams Oshiomhole alleged that the PDP had no candidate, citing a Federal High Court ruling. He urged voters not to waste their votes on the PDP.
