The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of conniving with the police to harass and arrest its members.
In a statement, APC Publicity Secretary Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie described the claims as baseless and aimed at distracting from the PDP’s own involvement in violence.
Uwadiae-Igbinigie revealed that the police had arrested individuals, including a young man found with a gun, who confessed to being procured by the Chairman of Esan North Local Government Area to attack APC members. He commended the police for their efforts in ensuring security in the state.
The APC spokesperson criticized Governor Obaseki for making inciting statements and harboring individuals named in a petition to the Inspector General of Police for their alleged involvement in the killing of a police officer.
Uwadiae-Igbinigie assured that the APC is focused on promoting transparency and ensuring a free, fair, and credible election in the state. He encouraged the people of Edo to disregard the PDP’s claims and called on security agencies to operate above board.
The PDP had earlier accused the APC and the police of colluding to keep its members out of circulation, calling on the international community and civil society organizations to intervene. However, the APC has denied these allegations, vowing to ensure a violence-free election in the state.
