Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has shared insights into the leadership style of former captain, John Terry, during their time at Stamford Bridge.
Mikel, who played under Terry’s captaincy, revealed that Terry would take charge when the team was struggling. “When the game is going tough and if we’re losing, in the dressing room, before the manager says something, he’ll come to you,” Mikel said on The Obi One Podcast.
Mikel described how Terry would confront teammates, saying, “He comes to you and goes like, ‘wake up, what the f*ck is wrong with you?’ Sometimes he’d grab you by the neck.” This approach, though unconventional, was effective in motivating the team.
Terry is widely regarded as one of the finest defenders in Premier League and England history, and his leadership style played a significant role in Chelsea’s success during his captaincy. Mikel’s revelations offer a glimpse into the intense and demanding environment that drove the team to victory.
