The Court of Appeal has directed former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to present himself for arraignment, following allegations of misappropriating over N80 billion during his eight-year tenure.
The appellate court set aside the judgment of the Kogi State High Court, which had earlier ruled on the matter. This development paves the way for Bello’s arraignment, as the court restrained him from taking further steps in the charge unless he appears before it.
Bello’s whereabouts have been unknown since the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to arrest him at his Abuja residence a few months ago. Governor Usman Ododo had thwarted the EFCC’s efforts to apprehend Bello at the time.
The EFCC is currently prosecuting Bello for alleged misappropriation of funds during his governorship. The commission has been seeking to bring him to justice, and the Court of Appeal’s ruling brings the matter a step closer to resolution.
