Olugbenga Edema, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, has ridiculed the defection of 30 associates of ex-governor Olusegun Mimiko to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Edema described the decision as “unfortunate and ill-informed,” likening it to jumping into a sinking Titanic ship. He emphasized that the APC lacks a valid candidate in Ondo State due to irregularities in their primary election.
Edema argued that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s emergence as the APC candidate was flawed and did not adhere to due process, as confirmed by INEC. He stated, “The Electoral Act clearly outlines the procedures for conducting primaries, and it is evident that the process that led to Aiyedatiwa’s emergence was flawed. As such, his candidature is illegitimate.”
Edema expressed confidence in the NNPP’s chances of victory, promising to offer the people of Ondo State credible and transparent leadership that prioritizes their welfare.
He assured, “Come November 16, the NNPP will emerge victorious. We are committed to offering the people of Ondo State credible and transparent leadership that prioritizes their welfare above all else.”
