The Kano State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on the city following the #EndBadGovernance protests, which rocked the state and resulted in widespread destruction and looting of property worth billions of naira.
According to a statement on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s Facebook page, the government is convinced that peace has returned to the city, necessitating the lifting of the curfew. “The 24 hours curfew slammed on Kano, has been effectively lifted as peace has completely returned to the city,” the statement declared.
The curfew was initially imposed to prevent further violence and destruction, but was later relaxed to allow for business activities to resume. With the situation now under control, the government has deemed it necessary to lift the curfew entirely.
The lifting of the curfew is expected to bring a sense of normalcy back to the city, allowing residents to go about their daily activities without restriction. However, it remains to be seen if the underlying issues that led to the protests have been addressed.
The #EndBadGovernance protests, which swept across the country, highlighted the need for good governance and accountability in Nigeria. As Kano returns to normal, the state government must work to address the concerns of its citizens and ensure that such violence does not occur again in the future.
