Manchester United’s preparations for their Premier League opener against Fulham have been dealt a significant blow with the injury to defender Harry Maguire.
The England international suffered a “little knock” during the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City on Saturday, according to manager Erik ten Hag.
Maguire was substituted after 59 minutes of the match, which ended 1-1 and was decided by penalties in favor of Manchester City. Ten Hag expressed hope that Maguire would recover in time for the season’s first game, saying, “[There is] a little knock with Harry [Maguire]. We hope he can keep fit and available for next week when we start the season.”
The injury to Maguire adds to United’s concerns ahead of the new season, and Ten Hag will be eager to have his key defender fit for the opener against Fulham at Old Trafford. The Red Devils will be seeking to make a strong start to the campaign, and Maguire’s availability will be crucial to their chances.
