Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, has taken to social media to mock South Africans for their hypocrisy in the Miss South Africa contest.
After Chidimma Adetshina, a Nigerian-Mozambican model, was bullied out of the competition, a white model, Mia Le Roux, was crowned Miss South Africa 2024.
Burna Boy shared a photo of the winner on his X account, captioning it, “So after all that… [laugh emoji],” implying that black South Africans’ opposition to Adetshina’s candidacy was misplaced. The incident has sparked widespread criticism, with many Nigerians and Africans accusing South Africans of racism and hypocrisy.
South African singer, Tyla, had earlier condemned the bullying of Adetshina, expressing disappointment at the harsh treatment meted out to her. The controversy has highlighted the deep-seated issues of racism and identity in South Africa, with many questioning the country’s readiness to embrace diversity and inclusivity.
