Former President Joe Biden has sounded the alarm on Donald Trump’s candidacy, calling him a “genuine danger to American security” in his first TV interview since dropping out of the White House race.
In a pre-taped interview with CBS News, Biden urged Americans to be vigilant, saying “mark my words, if he wins… this election, watch what happens.” He emphasized the importance of democracy, stating, “we’re at an inflection point in world history… and democracy is the key.”
Biden, who has kept a low profile since his withdrawal, appeared frail but cogent in the interview. He admitted to failing in a recent debate but stressed that he has “no serious problem” health-wise.
The outgoing president explained that his exit was motivated by concerns from fellow Democratic politicians that his candidacy would harm their re-election chances. He emphasized his priority is to stop Trump from returning to power, saying, “I have an obligation to the country to do what is the most important thing we can do, and that is — we must, we must, we must defeat Trump.”
Biden expressed pride in his record and vowed to campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris, who has replaced him on the ballot. Harris has enjoyed a surge in support since Biden’s exit, leaving Trump struggling.
In a separate development, Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, faced scrutiny on Sunday morning political talk shows, fielding questions on various topics, including white supremacist attacks and abortion. Vance claimed that Harris was “calling the shots” in the Biden administration, sparking a testy exchange with CBS’s Margaret Brennan.
