The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has vehemently rejected the N250,000 nomination fee imposed by the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) for the forthcoming local government election.
The party described the fee as “unjust and extortionate” and an attempt to manipulate the electoral system for personal financial gain.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Itunu Abioro, the ADC questioned the double standards exhibited by OGSIEC, noting that Governor Dapo Abiodun did not pay any fees to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during his election. The party urged other political parties to unite against the extortionate policy and called on stakeholders, civil society organizations, and the general public to condemn the act.
OGSIEC had announced the nomination fees during a stakeholder meeting, stating that chairmanship candidates must pay N250,000, while male councillorship candidates would pay N150,000 and female candidates N100,000. The ADC has vowed not to succumb to this “fraudulent act” and has denounced any attempt to manipulate the electoral system for personal financial gain.
