The Allied Conservative Congress (ACC) has thrown its weight behind the call for a Nigerian President of South-East extraction come 2027, citing the need to sustain national unity.
Party Chairman Olusegun Peters made the declaration during the inauguration of Abia State executives in Umuahia, stressing that the Igbo have been denied the presidency since Gen. Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi’s assassination in 1966.
Peters, represented by National Vice Chairman Ibrahim Abdullahi, noted that the North and South West have each occupied the presidency twice since democracy’s return, while the Igbo remain excluded. He emphasized the party’s commitment to equity and power distribution among the three major tribes.
Abdullahi praised the Igbo as industrious people, expressing hope that their ingenuity can address the country’s economic hardship. The National Chairman urged the new executives to unite and collaborate, stressing that the party prioritizes the interests of all Nigerians regardless of background.
Other party leaders, including Illya Juan, Abubakar Sadiq, and Vincent Eberechukwu, congratulated the new executives and expressed optimism for victory in upcoming elections. Acting State Chairman Onyekachi Uwalaka pledged to reposition the party for success in Abia’s 2027 governorship and legislative polls.
