A high-level meeting of the Chiefs of Defence Staff of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is underway at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
Chaired by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the meeting brings together top military brass from ECOWAS member states, with the exception of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger.
In attendance are key Nigerian officials, including the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Ahmed Lawan. Also present are the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, a representative of the National Security Adviser, and service chiefs.
The meeting, which is a significant gathering of West Africa’s military leaders, is expected to discuss regional security challenges and strategies for cooperation among ECOWAS member states.
General Musa, as the chairman of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff, is leading the discussions, which will shape the region’s military cooperation and security agenda.
The meeting is seen as a crucial step in strengthening regional security ties and addressing the complex security challenges facing West Africa.
