Security operatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have dispersed protesters in the Karu area, arresting three individuals in the process.
According to eyewitness Ibrahim Sani, the police used teargas to calm the situation before making arrests.
“I was shocked when I saw some people gathering at Karu. I thought the gathering was supposed to be in town. The police came and dispersed the protesters with teargas. They arrested about three people that I saw,” Sani said.
The dispersal of protesters comes as security operatives intensify patrols across the nation’s capital to prevent the breakdown of law and order. Despite increased vehicular movement on day five of the nationwide protests, government offices remain deserted, with few officials present at the Federal secretariat in Abuja.
Fear of potential clashes between protesters and security operatives has led to the low turnout of officials at Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Meanwhile, security personnel also fired teargas at protesters at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, who were agitating to move into town.
