The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the “Igbo Must Go” campaign in the South-West, calling for a referendum to allow Ndigbo to exit Nigeria peacefully.
IPOB Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, described the campaign as “provocative and genocidal”.
IPOB accused the Lagos State Government and Federal Government of sponsoring the campaign, warning that Ndigbo are prepared to exit Nigeria violently if necessary. The group demanded the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and a referendum for Ndigbo to decide between Biafra and Nigeria.
Powerful stated, “Ndigbo are ready to exit Yoruba land and Nigeria via a referendum… We are not perturbed by the threat of violence or genocide agenda tagged ‘Igbo Must Go’ protest.”
IPOB also warned Ndigbo in the North and West to return home, citing existential threats from these regions. The group called on the international community to intervene, stating that Biafrans are endangered species in Nigeria.
In response to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s condemnation of the campaign, IPOB described it as “hypocritical” and “laughable”, accusing the governor of ethnically profiling Ndigbo and demolishing their businesses and properties in Lagos State.
