Chaos erupted at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Saturday as police officers opened fire on protesters and journalists during the ongoing “End Hunger” protest.
Eyewitnesses reported that the protesters, mostly youths, had gathered in front of the stadium for the third day of the 10-day demonstration against bad governance in Nigeria.
However, the peaceful protest took a violent turn when heavily armed police officers arrived at the venue around 11:45 am, ordering the protesters to disperse. When the protesters refused to comply, the police opened fire, targeting both protesters and journalists.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for an end to police brutality and respect for citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and protest.
