Kano State has been plunged into chaos as protests against economic hardship turned violent, prompting Governor Abba Yusuf to declare a 24-hour curfew.
The curfew, announced by spokesperson Sunusi Tofa, follows an emergency meeting of the State Security Council to address the escalating violence and disruptions.
Tofa explained that the curfew is necessary to protect lives and property, saying, “The imposition of this curfew is a necessary measure to restore order and ensure the safety of our communities.”
Governor Yusuf appealed to citizens to remain united and vigilant, urging, “Let us not allow the actions of a few selfish individuals to divide us. Together, we can navigate these challenges and fortify our resolve to build a stronger, more resilient Kano State.”
Security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew, with citizens warned to comply for their safety.
Earlier, hoodlums looted and torched the Nigeria Communication Commission Industrial Park, making off with valuable equipment.
The state teeters on the brink of chaos, with the curfew aimed at restoring order and safeguarding lives and property.
