As the Super Falcons prepare to face Japan in their crucial Group C match at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes on Wednesday, Captain Rasheedat Ajibade is beaming with optimism.
Despite the team’s current position at the bottom of the group with two losses, Ajibade believes they can turn their fortunes around.
Victory over Japan is possible. We will work hard so that we can accomplish that. The Super Falcons have done it before and we can do it again,” Ajibade told (link unavailable) Her confidence stems from Nigeria’s previous win against Japan at the 2004 Olympics in Greece, where they triumphed 1-0.
With their backs against the wall, the Super Falcons must secure a win against the Asian champions to have any chance of advancing to the quarterfinals. Coach Randy Waldrum’s side will rely on Ajibade’s leadership and determination to drive them forward in this make-or-break encounter.
