Senate President Godswill Akpabio has taken a unique approach to addressing the planned nationwide protests, telling aggrieved Nigerians to go ahead with their demonstrations, but also to enjoy their food.
Akpabio made this statement at an event organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Rivers state, acknowledging the widespread hardship and suffering in the country.
He said, “All of us feel the impact of what is happening now. But we are aware it will be for a short while… Those who want to protest can protest, but let us be there eating.” Akpabio’s comments come as a nationwide protest is set to commence on Thursday, sparked by the high cost of living and suffering of Nigerians.
However, Akpabio emphasized the need for collective ownership of the government, saying, “Let us own this government.” He also highlighted the National Assembly’s commitment to addressing the environmental damage caused by oil and gas activities in the Niger Delta region through legislation.
