The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has addressed the public outcry over a yet-to-be-released movie featuring actress Nancy Isime.
The film’s poster, which shows Isime wearing a niqab in a robbery scene, sparked online condemnations, with many Muslims calling for a ban.
In a statement, the NFVCB clarified that the film is still in production and has not been submitted for classification. “Our check revealed that the movie has not been released, and it has not been submitted for classification as required by law and our mandate,” the agency said.
The NFVCB has reached out to the producers to address concerns raised by the Muslim community, including the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), which described the film as “satanic”.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to balancing freedom of expression with the need to protect religious, cultural, and ethnic sensibilities. “We will not overlook any movie or video works that abuse, denigrate, or undermine these values,” the NFVCB stated.
