Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has cautioned against the planned nationwide protest in August, warning that it may lead to chaos and anarchy.
Fani-Kayode, who was also the Director of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign on Digital and New Media, emphasized that peaceful protests are a right, but the August protest lacks identifiable leaders and may be manipulated by subversive elements.
He accused protest planners of exploiting economic hardship to incite violence and destabilize the country, stating, “There is nothing wrong with a peaceful demonstration and a lawful legitimate protest. What is unacceptable is a premeditated attempt by a group of faceless individuals… to destabilize the country and incite people to violence and carnage.”
Fani-Kayode urged Nigerians to rethink the protest, warning that it may lead to a repeat of the Endsars protests, which resulted in violence and bloodshed. He encouraged citizens to engage in dialogue with the federal government instead, emphasizing that protest would be counterproductive.
“The way forward is to put off the protest, exercise patience, enter dialogue with the Federal Government and express our collective concerns in a lawful, restrained, responsible and legitimate manner. Anything outside of that will be dangerous and counter-productive,” Fani-Kayode said.
