A High Court in Abia State has issued a restraining order against the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting a party congress scheduled for July 27, 2024.
Justice C.U Okoroafor, presiding over the Bende Judicial Division, granted the order following a motion ex parte brought by O.O Amuzie, counsel to the applicants. The court restrained the PDP from extending the expired tenure of state, local government, and ward executive officers in Abia State.
The court granted leave for the applicants to serve the originating summons and other processes on the defendants in Abuja, outside Abia State. The court also permitted service by substituted means, including delivery to adult inmates or posting at the PDP headquarters in Abuja.
The applicants are Francis Etuzu, Chidindu Kalu Kalu, and Enyinnaya Ogbu, while the defendants are the PDP National Chairman, National Organising Secretary, and National Legal Adviser.
Justice Okoroafor adjourned the matter to July 30, 2024, for a report of service. The court’s decision has significant implications for the PDP’s plans in Abia State.
