President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians planning a nationwide hunger protest to reconsider their decision, urging them to give his administration time to address their concerns.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris revealed the President’s plea after a closed-door meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. Idris stated, “Mr. President does not see any need for the protest. He asked them to shelve the plan and await government’s response to all their pleas.”
The planned protest, slated for August 1-10, aimed to draw attention to the rising cost of living and economic hardship. However, with the President’s appeal, the protest has been called off, and citizens are advised to give the government time to respond to their requests.
Idris reassured Nigerians that the President has “goodies” in store for them, saying, “The young people out there should listen to the President and allow him more time to see to the realisation of all the goodies he has for them.”
The President’s appeal and the subsequent call-off of the protest demonstrate the government’s commitment to engaging with citizens and addressing their concerns. Nigerians are advised to remain patient and give the administration time to deliver on its promises.
