Senate President Godswill Akpabio has tendered a public apology to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over his recent nightclub comment, which sparked widespread outrage.
Akpabio reiterated that he never intended to insult any woman, stating, “I will not intentionally denigrate any woman, and I always pray that God will uplift women.”
The Senate President revealed that his phone had been flooded with insults regarding the issue, prompting him to apologize publicly.
The incident occurred last Thursday when Akpabio rebuffed Akpoti-Uduaghan for speaking without being invited, saying, “This is not a nightclub.” His wife brought the matter to his attention, leading to the apology.
Akpabio also denied claims that he has “numerous girlfriends,” stating that he is married to one wife, whom he finds beautiful, and is content with her.
The Senate President urged social media handlers to practice decorum, saying, “We won’t regulate social media out of anger.” He emphasized the need to focus on issues that move the country forward.
