Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has validated his predecessor Ralf Rangnick’s assertion that the club required “open heart surgery”.
In an interview with AD, Ten Hag conceded that United still have a long way to go before reclaiming their status as a title-winning team.
Rangnick’s comments came after a disappointing 2021/2022 season, which saw United finish sixth with 58 points. Ten Hag echoed Rangnick’s sentiments, stating, “Rangnick was absolutely right… it’s a thorough, very complex operation.”
The Dutch manager acknowledged the daunting task ahead, saying, “We want this club back to where it was more than a decade ago… We are really a long way away from that, I think.” Ten Hag’s remarks underscore the significant work required to restore United’s former glory.
