The Football Association (FA) has commenced a search for a new England manager, following Gareth Southgate’s resignation after the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.
The FA seeks a candidate capable of “winning a major tournament” and has identified several potential candidates.
According to a job profile published on Friday, the ideal candidate must possess a UEFA Pro Licence, significant experience in English football, and a strong track record in the Premier League and international competitions. The FA also emphasized the need for an “exceptional leader” who is “highly resilient” and comfortable with intense public scrutiny.
Among the favorites for the role are Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, and Ange Postecoglou. However, the FA welcomes applications from anyone who meets the criteria, including England Women’s coach Sarina Wiegman.
The successful candidate will be expected to “lead and develop the England senior men’s team to win a major tournament” and maintain strong relationships with clubs employing English-qualified players. The FA aims to find a manager who can promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Applications are open until August 2, with England’s first match of the new season scheduled for September 7 against the Republic of Ireland.
