In a gruesome discovery, Kenyan authorities have found eight female bodies dumped in a slum in the capital city of Nairobi.
The bodies were discovered in various states of decomposition and had been dismembered, according to acting Police Chief Douglas Kanja.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Kanja revealed that six of the bodies were found on Friday, while the remains of the other two women were discovered on Saturday. “They were severely dismembered in different states of decomposition and left in sacks,” Kanja said.
The police chief assured the public that thorough and swift investigations are underway to apprehend those responsible for the heinous acts. “I would like to assure the public that we are committed to conducting transparent, thorough and swift investigations,” he stated.
Kanja, who took office this week following the resignation of former Police Chief Japhet Koome, urged the public to cooperate with the investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. “We need the public’s support to ensure that we bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts to book,” he appealed.
The discovery of the bodies comes amid public outrage over the deaths of dozens of protesters during anti-government demonstrations last month, which led to the resignation of Koome.
