The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, of fueling the crisis within the Edo State chapter of the party.
The Edo PDP has been embroiled in internal conflicts since the governorship primary election in February, which led to legal action against the party. Last week, Justice Inyang Ekwo invalidated the primary election due to the exclusion of 378 delegates. The PDP has appealed the judgment.
The PDP National Working Committee has suspended its National Vice Chairman (South-South), Chief Dan Orbih, an ally of Wike, for allegedly sabotaging the party’s efforts in Edo State. A party source revealed that Wike is behind the crisis, stating, “We are deeply concerned that some members are attempting to sabotage the party’s efforts in Edo State. Orbih and Philip Shaibu are working in allegiance with Nyesom Wike to undermine Governor Godwin Obaseki and pave the way for the APC to take control.”
The source added, “Similar to the situation in Rivers State, the PDP leadership is aware that Wike is funding and fueling all the crises within the party in Edo State. It’s high time the party took a firm stand on this issue and suspends Wike as well.” However, the PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, affirmed that the party leadership remains committed to ensuring the success of the PDP’s candidate in Edo State.
