The United Nations has expressed outrage over Israel’s latest mass evacuation orders in Gaza City, as the Israeli army intensifies its military operations in the area.
The orders have left tens of thousands of civilians fleeing for their lives, with many forced to relocate multiple times.
Gaza City residents described a night of intense fighting, with explosions, gun battles, and helicopter strikes rocking southwestern neighborhoods. Despite the chaos, civilians continued to flee, with many seeking refuge in areas that have since become targets themselves.
The UN Human Rights Office condemned the evacuation orders, stating that civilians are being told to move to areas where military operations are ongoing and civilians continue to be killed and injured. The office expressed concern that the newly designated safe zone, Deir al-Balah, is already overcrowded with displaced Palestinians.
The Israeli military claims it is conducting a “counterterrorism operation” against Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets, and has eliminated dozens of militants in close-quarters combat and aerial strikes. However, the UN and Gaza City residents have disputed these claims, citing the high civilian toll and targeting of residential areas.
As the situation escalates, the UN has urged Israel to reconsider its approach and prioritize civilian safety. The international community is watching with growing concern as the conflict intensifies.
