The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) has unveiled a comprehensive timetable for the upcoming Local Government elections, slated for August 17, 2024.
In a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters on Tuesday, Chairman Ahmad Makama outlined the schedules of activities, which include:
– Campaigns by political parties (July 18 – August 16, 2024)
– Supervision of political party primaries, collection and submission of aspiration forms, and screening of candidates (July 15 – August 8, 2024)
– Training of Local Government Returning Officers, Supervisory Officers, Presiding Officers, and other election personnel (August 9 – 15, 2024)
– Distribution of sensitive election materials (August 9 – 15, 2024)
Notably, the All Progressive Congress (APC), the major opposition party in the state, was absent from an interactive session with Chairmen of Political Parties on the commission’s schedules of activities, which was attended by sixteen registered political parties.
The commission will also meet with Heads of security Agencies and Stakeholders on July 10 and 11, 2024, to ensure a hitch-free election.
Makama reiterated the commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election.
