The Dangote oil refinery is set to supply petrol in July as promised, according to Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited. Edwin made this statement during a tour of the facility with officials from S&P Global.
The refinery aims to catalyse industrial development, job creation, and economic prosperity by harnessing Africa’s abundant crude oil resources to produce refined products locally. Edwin emphasized that the facility’s products meet international standards and can meet 100% of Nigeria’s demand for petrol, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel, with surpluses available for export.
S&P Global praised the refinery’s potential to resolve Nigeria’s foreign exchange challenges by ending fuel importation, which puts pressure on the local currency. The refinery is expected to transform Nigeria into a net exporter of petroleum products, boosting revenue generation and alleviating pressure on foreign exchange reserves.
The facility is designed to process a wide range of crudes and conforms to Euro V specifications, ensuring high-quality products. The refinery’s advanced technologies and quality control measures, including a state-of-the-art Central Control Unit, impressed the S&P team.
With a current capacity of 350,000 barrels per day, the refinery is expected to scale up to 500,000 barrels per
