German football legend Toni Kroos has penned a heartfelt message to fans following his team’s quarter-final exit from the 2024 European championships.
Germany was defeated 2-1 by Spain on Friday, marking Kroos’ final game in professional football.
In an emotional Instagram post, Kroos expressed his gratitude to fans and reflected on his return to the national team last year. He wrote: “29.09.2023 my phone rang. Caller: Julian Nagelsmann Request: return to the national team. First thought in my mind: I’m not stupid! The first thought in my heart: fuck yeah! The heart decided to know.”
Kroos praised the team’s progress, saying: “I’ve seen more in this team than it has shown in recent years… I’m very proud of what this team did!” He also thanked fans for their support, saying: “You made this home EM a special one. We have seen you, experienced and felt you!”
