English midfielder Jude Bellingham has been fined €30,000 and handed a suspended ban by UEFA for his controversial gesture during England’s 2-1 win over Slovakia at Euro 2024.
The Real Madrid star made a lewd gesture after scoring a dramatic late equalizer, which he later claimed was an “inside joke”.
UEFA announced the decision in a statement on Friday, stating that Bellingham violated the basic rules of decent conduct. The suspension is not immediately enforced and is subject to a probationary period of one year, starting from the date of the decision.
Bellingham’s fate will not affect England’s upcoming quarter-final match against Switzerland on Saturday. The English Football Association has been informed of the decision, and Bellingham will be eligible to play in the quarter-final. However, any further misconduct could activate the suspended ban.
