An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Abu, was attacked by armed robbers on Friday in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
The incident occurred while Abu was returning from a bank and heading towards his house in the Zango area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the robbers trailed Abu, who was riding a motorcycle, from the bank to Phase I Lokongoma in front of Lokongoma market. They shot him three times in both legs and shoulder and made away with a yet-to-be-ascertained sum of money.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that N139,000 was recovered from the scene. The officer was rushed to the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, the state Commissioner of Police, Bertrand Onuoha, has deployed officers to the scene to ensure the safety of lives and property and apprehend the armed robbers.
The police are currently investigating the incident and trailing the armed robbers to bring them to justice. The attack on the FRSC official has raised concerns about the safety of citizens in the state, and the police have assured that they are working to ensure the security of all.
