Manchester United has announced that manager Erik ten Hag has signed a contract extension, keeping him at the helm until June 2026.
This development comes after intense speculation surrounding his future following a disappointing 2023/24 Premier League campaign.
Despite the poor league performance, Ten Hag led the team to FA Cup victory against Manchester City, a feat that seemingly secured his position. The club’s new part-owner, Jim Ratcliffe, had reportedly conducted a review that concluded Ten Hag was the best man for the job.
“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved so far, but I’m also aware that there’s still much work to be done to reach the levels expected of Manchester United,” Ten Hag said. “We need to challenge for English and European titles, and I’m committed to driving up standards and outcomes.”
Sporting director Dan Ashworth praised Ten Hag’s record, stating, “Erik has consistently demonstrated his ability to deliver success, and we believe he’s the right partner to help us achieve our goals.”
Ten Hag’s extension comes after a tumultuous season that saw United finish 31 points behind champions Manchester City. However, his FA Cup triumph and League Cup win in his first season have encouraged fans that the team is on the right path.
The Dutchman’s new deal will see him remain at Old Trafford until 202
