The Ogun State Government has come under fire for earmarking a staggering ₦2.4 billion for the purchase of 25 Toyota sports utility vehicles for members of the state House of Assembly.
This allocation is part of the ₦703 billion “Budget of Sustained Growth and Development” signed into law by Governor Dapo Abiodun on December 30, 2023.
According to the budget breakdown, ₦2,177,700,000.00 is dedicated to procuring high-grade Toyota Prado VX vehicles for the state legislators. Furthermore, ₦161,772,000.00 is allocated for a Toyota LC3003.5L, twin turbo for the House Speaker, and ₦143,106,000.00 for a Toyota LC300GX.
This development has sparked outrage among Nigerians, who are criticizing the government for prioritizing lawmakers’ luxury vehicles over pressing needs in the state. The allocation has raised questions about the government’s spending priorities and its commitment to the welfare of the citizens.
