South African sensation Tyla, 22, made history at the BET Awards 2024, clinching the coveted Best New Artist award.
Her debut single “Water” propelled her to global stardom, earning her a Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in February.
Tyla edged out fellow African nominee Ayra Starr and other international acts to take home the award. In her acceptance speech, she dedicated the win to Africa, paying tribute to African superstars who paved the way. “This is a gift… Africa to the world!” she exclaimed.
The young star also took home the award for Best International Act, beating Asake, Ayra Starr, and other global artistes. Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Tems, and Seyi Vibes received nominations in yet-to-be-awarded categories. Tyla’s double win solidifies her position as a rising star in the music industry.
