The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo has announced the commencement of its congresses to elect new leaders from the ward to the state level, following a recent shakeup in the state leadership that led to mass resignations.
According to the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chidi Dike, the congresses will be conducted in a manner acceptable to all, and will reposition the party to face future challenges. Dike commended the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, for his support towards the party’s welfare in the state.
The State Secretary, Ugorji Onuegbu, released the timetable, scheduling the ward congress for July 27, LGA congress for August 10, and state congress for August 31. The chairman also inaugurated the LGA Congress Harmonisation and Consensus Committees to supervise the congress at the LGA level.
Dike praised the efforts of the Chief Emma Ahuoku-led Disciplinary Committee, noting that indiscipline, abuse of office, and anti-party activities are now a thing of the past. The meeting was well attended by party stakeholders across the three geopolitical zones in the state.
“We are writing a new chapter in our party’s history,” Dike said. “This congress will put our party in a better, stronger position to face the challenges ahead.”
