The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has responded harshly to criticisms from Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the FCT, over his performance in office.
Wike, appointed by President Bola Tinubu, stated that he is focused on doing his job and not seeking to be friends with anyone, including the Senator.
He challenged Kingibe to contest the FCT seat again in 2027 if she believes she is popular, assuring that she would lose the election, just like the last time.
The Minister’s response was prompted by Senator Kingibe’s claim that FCT residents are dissatisfied with Wike’s performance, alleging that he is out of touch with their needs. She highlighted the lack of schools, hospitals, and potable water in the FCT.
Wike dismissed the Senator’s criticisms, stating that he has done well within the short time of his appointment and is not in office to please her. He also questioned Kingibe’s contributions to the welfare and development of FCT residents since she assumed office as their legislator in the National Assembly.
In a harsh tone, Wike told Kingibe to “go and hang herself on a transformer” if she is not happy with his performance.
The exchange between the two officials highlights the tension and rivalry between the executive and legislative arms of government in the FCT.
